Amenities: Our spacious room on the top floor features an enormous patio and provides a panoramic view of the Hillsborough River. The king bed is extremely comfortable. The living room area is huge but features an uncomfortable couch and chairs. The 42"" LCD TV is quite sharp. Wireless high speed Internet access is free. On-site parking costs $20 US per day.
Bathroom: I enjoyed the walk-in shower.
Decor: Lots of light from banks of windows focus on eclectic modern sculptures in the lobby and help make this a vibrant, charged part of the hotel. The quick snack area features an electronic stock market ticker tape for those who must keep on top of their investments. The Aloft Tampa Downtown calls itself "a hip new hotel" and I concur.
Balcony: We enjoyed a large balcony facing the river.
Hotel Features & History: This hotel is only a few years old. There is an attractive Board Room on the main floor. Aloft is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, an international chain with 100 properties.
Aloft Tampa Downtown welcomes dogs up to 40 pounds. Their pet-friendly program offers a special bed, bowl, and a doggie bag of woof-alicious treats and toys, all complimentary to use during one's stay.
12 - 6 PM pool party featuring drink specials, a live DJ, and a social scene on Sundays, and select Saturdays.
Re-mix lounge - Sip a drink, enjoy fast & free WiFi, or try a game of pool.
Drinks: W XYZ bar - cool music and cocktails, plus a full menu, and events.
Dining: In the large lounge area near the entrance, there is a neat 24-7 "re:fuel" grab-and-go food and beverage area and the bar further away, is quite attractive with a pool table in the adjoining lounge.
Service: The staff here are polite and responsive.
Nearby Attractions: It's located on the Riverwalk, steps away from Curtis Hixon Park, the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, the Tampa Convention Center, the Tampa Bay Times Forum, and the University of Tampa with the Oxford Exchange directly across the street. Go to the latter for a wonderful breakfast and take in the shop and book store! We walked to the Amalie hockey arena to take in a Tampa Bay Lightening NHL game.
Room Cost: Range - $149-$209
Room Tip or Suggestion: Ask for the nicer river view.
