Adventures of a Lifetime leads one from massive polar bears at one end of the earth to smaller penguins at the other. It's a quick, easy read, hard to put down and perfect to have handy whenever one has a few extra moments to relax.
I was hooked immediately by the first story by Peter Mandel as he gets up close and personal with the endangered polar bear as well as Eleanor Roosevelt's quote which sets the tone for the book - The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience. And that's precisely how the book unfolds with 24 tales that include these (from the book's cover) -
* Get chased by monkeys in Indonesia
* See what happens when you're stranded in the Gobi Desert
* Play a game of naked Frisbee with a tribe in New Guinea
* Hang out with polar bears in the frozen lands of Manitoba
* Say goodbye to your love on a final trip to Venice
* Get hopelessly lost during a scary jungle hike in Hawaii
* Stare history in the face uncovering your roots in Latvia
* Watch over your back for hippos on a Ugandan safari
* Attempt to sail across Australia's wild Bass Strait
* Travel by camel with the "Blue Men" of Mali
* Step foot in Antarctica among icebergs and penguins
Editor Janna Graber ends the travel anthology with an hilarious adventure in Turkey by Richard Teece, someone I might go to daily for a wonderful tonic during our unsettled times. I thrived on the distinctive voices and the passion invested in each author whom Graber has wisely chosen to showcase. I highly recommend this book.
"These stories bring out the humorous in encounters with the unfamiliar, show the spirit of adventure that impels the traveler to confront dangers while exploring different cultures, and reveals how understanding broadens with exposure to unknown challenges." - San Francisco Book Review (

Adventures of a Lifetime: Travel Tales from Around the World is for travelers seeking palpable action and 'you-are-there' scenarios from their armchair explorations of the world. The second book in the World Traveler Tales series, Adventures of a Lifetime gathers over twenty stories of adventure and action. The stories here are recommended for armchair readers with a thirst for adventure and a passion for first-person accounts of (often poignant) hair-raising encounters. - Midwest Book Review
"Adventures of a Lifetime picks up where the previous anthology of this series, "Chance Encounters" left us, wanting more. This is another fine collection of adventures from some of the world's most remote places by the best travel writers in the business. It should be in the library of any serious traveler." - Travel author James Dorsey
"This unique collection of travel stories will no doubt keep you on your feet from start to finish. Each experience is as moving as the one before, and has the ability to transport you to different places all around the world. I was able to finish this book almost too quickly due to the fact that I couldn't put it down." – Larysa Reed
