Illuminaqua 2012 - Welland Recreational Canal Corporation announces festival lineup
Would you believe it's already the sixth season? And it gets better every year! The Welland Recreational Canal Corporation's (WRCC) lineup is set. Musicians will entertain crowds at the Merritt Park Amphitheater as pods of fire illuminate (or is that Illuminaqua?), sparkling on the dark evening surface of Welland's recreational canal.
WRCC executive director Stephen Fischer utilized a $50,000 budget to secure top-rated Canadian musical performers from a variety of genres.
Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo fame kicks off this year's festival May 18 with his country melodies and folk artist Jill Barber follows June 15. On July 6, it's blues-funk artist Ray Bonneville and on August 13, tenor Michael Ciufo adds a touch of opera. How's that for diversity! On Aug. 31, Tara Oram, winner of the Canadian Country Music Awards "Rising Star Award" concludes the series.
Fischer says this year's festival offers great packages due to partnerships with Henry of Pelham, Molson Canada, the Seaway Mall and Boston Pizza. There are 500 series passes available at $119.95 which includes access to all performances, two bottles of wine from Henry of Pelham, a wine-tasting at the winery, a $25 gift certificate to the mall, a pitcher of Molson draught and a complimentary appetizer at Boston Pizza.
Individual tickets range from $26-$29. Tickets and packages are on sale, and can be purchased online at
www.illuminaqua.com or at the Seaway Mall customer service desk. Performances begin at 8 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater,
115 King St. Welland.
