Janna Graber describes them as mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, friends and lovers - and as editor, she adroitly employs a successful formula for uniting them all in her travel anthology. In A Pink Suitcase: 22 Tales of Women's Travel we join 22 daring ladies headed towards captivating global destinations. We are invited to -

A Pink Suitcase: 22 Women's Travel Tales * Join a hitchhiker in Samoa on an unusual search
* Sail the world with your family and a finicky cat
* Learn to smile in the Outback, even after great loss
* Take a walk in India guided by starlight and a stranger
* Comb the Chinese countryside for a mystery man
* Cook up good memories with a chef in France
* Hike 1,400 miles of the Appalachian Trail
* Use travel charades to get around in Russia
* Run the race of your life in French Polynesia
* Find hope and giggles with the Hill Tribes of Thailand
* Watch out for bears in the Canadian back country

Graber selects her ladies wisely as they display amazing curiosity, daring and also a required sense of humour to get by, the stories as diverse as the places that they visit - from sailing the South Pacific to hiking the Appalachian Trail and searching for roots in rural China.

The first story in any anthology must stand out and encourage further reading. Bernadette Murphy's The Human Race, essentially a metaphor for her getting back into it - during a mini marathon in French Polynesia - is both powerful and moving. Yes, along the way, there are personal eureka's as many uncover latent power when confronted by serious difficulty. Several ladies in fact push the envelope just to exit from their soft comfort zones to experience joy in discovery. For others, travel helps to heal.

How often have we said to ourselves - I've got to get out of this place - but never do? As with Graber's other anthologies, I highly recommend this book.
